Puppy feeding chart

How much a growing puppy eats a day, by weight and age. Based on the vet formula and a typical puppy food.

Find your puppy’s weight today, not the adult weight. The cups are for a typical dry puppy food: the middle value of the 29 US puppy foods in our list, 397 kcal per cup (3,773 kcal per kg). Your own food may be richer or lighter, so for its exact amount use the puppy calculator or one of the food pages below.

How often to feed

VCA Animal Hospitals advises feeding growing puppies measured amounts at regular times, generally two to three times a day, rather than leaving food out. For large and giant breeds this matters most: they should grow slowly and steadily, a large-breed puppy food is the safer choice, and they can take 18 to 24 months to reach adulthood.
